Besides habitat restoration and providing recommendations to improve your natural area, W2W offers other professional services such as:
Our wetland experts conduct wetland screenings and formal wetland delineations, following U.S. Army Corps of Engineers guidelines. The collected data is formalized into a report which can be used to satisfy local and federal wetland permitting requirements and assist with the development of the project design and/or wetland mitigation plan. Additionally, whether restoring an existing wetland or creating a new one, W2W can provide support for your wetland project by designing wetland plant communities and preparing maintenance and monitoring plans, which is sometimes necessary to document restoration progress.
Every natural area is unique in terms of its vegetative state and land-use history. Whether you are looking for a onetime assessment of existing conditions, basic restoration guidance, or more detailed long-term restoration guidance, W2W has the expertise to assess the habitat components and floristic quality of your site, evaluate your site’s restoration potential, and provide a long-term restoration plan.
Evaluating the floristic quality of a natural area is a good first step to determine the health and diversity of a plant community, document restoration progress, and assess the achievement of restoration commitments. Depending on your project goals and needs, W2W ecologists can execute meander surveys or transect studies. A meander survey is a plotless timed or untimed plant survey that can be executed in both small and large natural areas. These types of surveys typically occur two or three times during a growing season and provide a current list of plants present within a natural area, including rare or threatened/endangered species. Meander surveys also provide other information such as plant characteristics and plant community metrics. Transect studies utilize plots and/or random sampling that provide standardized observations and measurements which can be tracked over time.
If you are planning for tree removal or construction, some municipalities and other government agencies have ordinances in place requiring a tree survey or even a tree protection plan prior to the work taking place. W2W arborists can assist by identifying trees down to species level, measuring their size, and assessing the overall health and structure of individual trees. If needed or required, W2W will summarize tree survey data into a report and assist with developing a tree protection plan.
W2W staff have experience with grant and professional writing. Applying our industry knowledge, we can help plan your natural area project and prepare a grant proposal. If awarded, we may even be able to help you execute the work outlined in the grant!
