During 2021, the Plainfield Park District (District) initiated improvements to Eaton Preserve Park located in the Village of Plainfield, Will County, Illinois. As a part of this project, the District issued several bids. Innovation Landscape, Inc. was awarded two of the bids and completed the landscape work at Eaton Preserve Park, which included native seed and plant plug installation.
To ensure the development of healthy and diverse native plant communities within Eaton Preserve Park, the Bid Documents require three years of vegetation maintenance and monitoring after the conclusion of native seed and plant installation. In support of Bid Document compliance, Innovation Landscape, Inc. hired Woods to Wetlands, LLC (W2W) to assist with the first year of restoration, management, and monitoring, within the areas planted with native vegetation.
In 2022, W2W staff ecologists and wetland scientists led restoration efforts and conducted a vegetation monitoring study within the four recently seeded and planted naturalized areas at Eaton Preserve Park. Restoration efforts included spot herbicide treatments which targeted perennial, non-native weed species and mowing of biennial and annual weed species. After the biannual vegetation monitoring was completed, a report was prepared and provided to the Plainfield Park District. The report summarized restoration activities and depicted the results of the vegetation monitoring. Vegetation maintenance and monitoring is planned for 2023.
